Trump Looks to Restore Names of Military Bases, Including Fort Hood

FORT CAVAZOS, TX — President Donald Trump said Tuesday he intends to restore the names of several U.S. military bases that were changed in recent years.

Among the bases he addressed in his speech was Fort Cavazos in Texas, previously known as Fort Hood.

The Texas base was one of many that had its name changed under the Biden administration to remove anything honoring the Confederate States of America.

To restore the original names of the bases, the Army found other service members with the same last names to honor.

"We won a lot of battles out of those forts, it's no time to change, and I'm superstitious," Trump said during his speech at Fort Bragg in North Carrolina.

Fort Cavazos, previously known as Fort Hood, was renamed in 2023 "in compliance with the 2021 legislation that required the removal or modification of any Department of Defense assets commemorating the Confederate States of America or anyone who voluntarily served under the Confederacy," according to the U.S. Army.

Fort Hood was originally named after John Bell Hood, a Confederate General from Kentucky who led forces from Texas during the Civil War.

Can we rename one, "Fort Peckerwood?" And maybe, "Fort Whipcracker," if there's an extra one somewhere?
