Texas Monthly Announces State’s Top 50 BBQ Joints

AUSTIN, TX — Texas Monthly has named its top 50 barbecue joints in the state, but none of them were near San Angelo.

The closest spot on the list, Jay’s BBQ Shack, is about 80 miles away in Abilene.

The Half Acre, which is 105 miles away in Midland, is the only other place within 150 miles of San Angelo.

In general, the western half of Texas was largely ignored as only one other barbecue spot in our region of the state was honored.

Evie Mae’s Pit Barbecue in Wolfforth, just outside of Lubbock, claimed the No. 10 spot on the list.

The other 47 spots all fell in the other half of the state.

Austin led all cities with eight restaurants on the list, two of which made the top 10.

The No. 1 spot went to Burnt Bean Co. in Seguin.
