MARFA, TX — A 10-acre desert retreat owned by photographer Douglas Friedman has been listed for $3.7 million, according to Marfa Vista Real Estate.
The property, located at 2405 Antelope Hills Road, offers panoramic views of the Davis and Haystack mountain ranges and features a 2,304-square-foot home.
Friedman, a native New Yorker, purchased the land more than a decade ago after an extensive search.
According to the Houston Chronicle, real estate agent Mary Farley, who assisted Friedman with the purchase and now represents the listing, said that he was drawn to the site by its expansive mountain views.
“He went to the property, he looked at the mountain range and he said, ‘My God, this is it,’” Farley said in an interview with Cowboys & Indians magazine.
The home, featured in Architectural Digest, Galerie Magazine, and other design publications, was built using glulam timbers, steel connectors, and structural insulated panels. Large glass walls frame the desert landscape, and a clerestory window encircles the structure to allow natural light throughout the day.

The interior, designed with a blend of minimalist architecture and vibrant textures, includes top-tier appliances, custom furnishings, and modern conveniences. Outdoor features include a palapa lounge, fire pit, and a lap pool made from a repurposed shipping container with a built-in hot tub.

Located about two miles from Marfa’s center, the home offers privacy while remaining close to the town’s renowned art galleries, independent theaters, and installations like the Chinati Foundation and the mysterious Marfa Lights.
The property’s grounds feature native prairie grasses and trees, with the former pasture restored to its natural desert landscape. The nearest major city, El Paso, is about 190 miles west, making the retreat remote yet accessible with a three-hour drive from the airport.
In an Instagram post, Friedman described the property as “located on ten acres abutting thousands of acres of ranch land with unobstructed views of the Davis Mountains to the north and the Haystack Mountains to the east.”
He added that the retreat is “a delight to sit out on the patio in the evening around the fire pit and watch the exquisite light show that is the sky of West Texas.”
