Fire in Eden Claims Woman’s Life, Injures Neighbor Who Tried to Help

EDEN, TX — A house fire claimed the life of a woman in Eden on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025.

Kay Prosise, 81, died in the fire, which quickly engulfed her home, according to A.J. Dolle, publisher of the Eden Echo.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Texas Rangers, the State Fire Marshal and the Concho County Sheriff’s Office.

A neighbor, Greg Casey, was badly burned while attempting to rescue Prosise from the house.

Casey was flown to San Antonio, where he was expected to be released from a local hospital Monday, Jan. 27.

A GoFundMe was created for Casey to help cover his medical expenses.

Several firefighters were also treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, according to Dolle.
