SAN ANGELO, TX – Texas has been named the “stickiest” state in the United States for 2024, according to a new report by moveBuddha, a relocation technology company.
The report indicates that 39% of Texas residents who sought relocation services this year opted to move within the state, making Texas the leading state where residents choose to stay within its borders.
The “stickiness” of a state refers to its ability to retain residents even when they consider relocating. The report attributes Texas’s high retention rate to factors such as lower-than-average home prices and the state’s competitive cost of living.
Texas has also added more jobs than any other state from 2022 to 2023, further enhancing its attractiveness to both current residents and newcomers. The state’s cost of living index stands at 92.4, making it one of the more affordable states in the nation.
Following Texas in the rankings are North Carolina, Ohio, and Oklahoma, with in-state relocation rates of 37%, 35%, and 34%, respectively. The report notes that Midwestern and Southern states generally rank high in resident retention, driven by a combination of economic growth and affordable living conditions.
The analysis by moveBuddha was based on over 175,000 searches from their Moving Cost Calculator, collected between January 1, 2024, and August 8, 2024.
