H2S Leak in Seminole Contained, No Injuries Reported

SEMINOLE, TX - A large hydrogen sulfide (H2S) leak at a CO2 plant northwest of Gaines County prompted a response from first responders early this morning, causing concern among local residents.

Gaines County Sheriff Ronny Pipkin reported to San Angelo LIVE! that this happened around 6 a.m. at the CO2 plant. First responders arrived on the scene and had the situation under control by 8:30 a.m.

Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic and flammable gas often found in natural gas and petroleum. Exposure to H2S can cause a range of health effects, from eye irritation to serious respiratory issues, and even death in high concentrations.

Despite initial speculation that residents within a one-square-mile radius of the plant would need to evacuate, Sheriff Pipkin clarified that no evacuations took place. Residents in the vicinity were briefed about the situation.

Kasie Taylor, County Court Coordinator, confirmed the H2S leak and assured that it was fully contained. There is no ongoing threat to the public and no injuries were reported.
