SAN ANGELO, TX – All Texas Department of Public Safety driver license offices have reopened following a statewide closure last week caused by a CrowdStrike incident, officials announced Monday.
The closure, attributed to a faulty update to computers running Microsoft Windows, led to a massive technology outage impacting various services globally, including grounding flights and disrupting emergency services and banks.
CrowdStrike, an Austin-based cybersecurity company, confirmed the outage was not a security threat or cyberattack. George Kurtz, president and CEO of CrowdStrike, stated that the problem has been resolved, although some systems may take time to fully recover.
The DPS reminded residents that DL offices operate by appointment only, which can be made through the DPS website.
Earlier statements from CrowdStrike indicated the outage stemmed from a defect in a single content update for Windows hosts. The incident also affected CrowdStrike’s stock, which fell by about 15% on the Nasdaq exchange on Friday.
