Shark Attacks Four on South Padre Island

 

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TX — Beachgoers had their Independence Day festivities screech to a halt on Thursday after a shark attacked two people and injured two more. Two people were transported to the hospital due to the severity of the bites.

According to KSAT San Antonio, Police were notified after the first attack of a man who was severely bitten just after 11 a.m. Beach patrol, firefighters, police, and drones canvassed the area after the attacks.

There is a video circulating around social media that shows the aftermath of one of the attacks. GRAPHIC VIDEO, WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK:

One person was taken to Brownsville Hospital due to the severity of the bite, and another reportedly had to be flown out for further treatment. The other two people involved were not seriously injured in the attack.

A game warden commented that, based on eyewitness accounts and pictures circulating on social media, they believed the shark to be about 6 feet long.

TPW is continuing to investigate this incident. Authorities believe it was one shark in those four attacks, and are keeping people out of the water.
