DALLAS, TX — Annette Addo-Yobo, a native of North Texas, was crowned Miss Texas 2024 on Saturday.
Addo-Yobo, who competed as Miss Southlake, previously held the title of Miss Dallas in 2023.
Born in Ghana, Addo-Yobo grew up in the U.S. and Canada before becoming a U.S. citizen. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2020.
For the talent portion of the competition, Addo-Yobo delivered a spoken word performance promoting autism awareness. The cause is personal for her, as her brother is on the autism spectrum.
"The Miss Texas crown is much bigger than me," Addo-Yobo stated in an Instagram post. "This crown is for every young child, teenager, and adult on the spectrum who felt alienated, abandoned, stereotyped, and unseen because of their different abilities."
In her Instagram post, Addo-Yobo expressed her gratitude and humility in serving as the 87th Miss Texas, highlighting her historic achievement as the first immigrant-born and first Ghanaian to hold the title.
She emphasized her commitment to her platform, "The SPARK Project," which focuses on autism safety, awareness, and education. Her mission is to amplify the voices of the autistic community and address systemic inequities.
Addo-Yobo also congratulated her fellow contestants, including Miss Space City, Miss Southeast Texas, Miss Plano, and Miss Burleson.
"Congratulations to our remaining Top 12 and the Miss Texas Class of 2024 for all that you accomplished at this competition and during your year of service," she stated. "I can’t wait to serve each and every one of you this year. Our communities and this state are better because of each of you."
According to information, participation in this program provides young women with the opportunity to promote initiatives regarding community service, share their talents, intelligence, and positive values while serving as role models in their communities, all with the support of dedicated volunteers assisting them in their pursuit of academic excellence, service and lifelong success.
