Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Big Country Through Tonight

ABILENE, TX — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Big Country until 10 p.m. tonight.

The watch warns of possible tennis ball-sized hail and winds reaching up to 70 mph.

Meteorologists predict that the storms will initiate in the western regions of Big Country between 5 and 6 p.m. this evening, move eastward, and taper off late in the evening.

While widespread rainfall is not anticipated, isolated areas could experience significant hail and damaging winds.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant as additional severe weather could develop late Thursday during the ongoing severe weather season.
