ABILENE— The Abilene Zoo has welcomed the hatching of an endangered species of bird.
The Abilene Zoo announced in a Facebook post that an endangered secretary bird egg has hatched. The baby’s parents, Pam and Jagger, have been in Abilene for four years. This is the first secretary bird to hatch at the Abilene Zoo in over 30 years.
Pam laid the egg in early May and she and Jagger took turns incubating it over six weeks.
The secretary bird has been classified as endangered since 2020.
