Texas A&M Forest Service Update on Devastating Wildfires

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Texas A&M Forest Service released an update Friday afternoon on the wildfires across West Texas.

The following is the release published on Friday, Mar. 18:

Texas A&M Forest Service and Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) firefighters continue to work alongside local responding agencies on several wildfires that ignited yesterday. 

Today, Friday, March 18, post-frontal conditions, including strong winds over extremely dry vegetation, will support wildfire activity in South Texas where there is a low to moderate potential for large wildfires that may be resistant to control. Additionally, critically dry to extremely dry grass will continue to support wildfire activity in the Cross Timbers, Rolling Plains and Hill Country regions through Sunday.

Active Fires:

  • Eastland Complex, Eastland County - est. 45,383 acres, 4% contained
  • Chico Lane Fire, Reagan County - est. 8,000 acres, 95% contained
  • Edmunson Fire, Sterling County - est. 3,878 acres, 75% contained
  • Crews Gap Fire, Runnels County - est. 7,500 acres, 80% contained

Contained Fires (100%):

  • Hollywood Fire, Randall County - 166 acres
  • Burr Fire, Maverick County - 4,825 acres
