Abilene Residents Foot the Bill After Single Wide Trailer Dumped on I-20

ABILENE – The curious case of the abandoned single wide trailer home on I-20 will cost Abilene residents tens of thousands of dollars.

According to TxDOT, the mobile home was abandoned on the side of the road after the axles were damaged.

In order to remove the trailer,  TxDOT plans to have workers take it apart and placing the trash in a roll-off dumpster. The estimated cost of the dumpsters is $2,400 –– this figure does not include the cost of paying workers.

The Abilene Police Department will retain custody of the trailer's frame.

Officials hope to remove the mobile home by the end of the week.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of the story stated the cost of the dumpsters was $24,000, a correction  was issued DPS clarifying the cost was $2,400.
