Gov. Abbott Orders Flags to be Flown at Half-staff Immediately

AUSTIN, TX – Gov. Greg Abbott has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of the fallen heroes in Afghanistan.

Governor Greg Abbott Friday ordered Texas flags across the state to be lowered to half-staff to honor the U.S. service members who lost their lives during an attack at the airport yesterday in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Flags should remain at half-staff through sunset on Monday, August 30, 2021.

Here is the Governor's letter:

Pursuant to Chapter 3100 of the Texas Government Code, flags of the State of Texas on all state buildings, facilities, and offices are ordered to half-staff immediately, to honor the U.S. service members who lost their lives during an attack at the airport yesterday in Kabul, Afghanistan. Flags should return to full-staff at sunset on Monday, August 30, 2021.

Individuals, businesses, municipalities, and other political subdivisions and entities are encouraged to fly the Texas flag at half-staff for the same period as a sign of honor and respect.

The First Lady and I extend our prayers of comfort to those effected by this devastating event.
