First Ever Basin Gay Pride Festival Set for August

ODESSA, TX – The Pride Center West Texas organization announced the first-ever Basin Pride festival will take place in August, instead of during Pride month.

While many pride activities are generally scheduled for June, the Permian Basin's first pride event will be a "family-focused event welcoming parents, kids, and allies" happening later in the summer.

This will allow West Texans to travel and participate in pride events in bigger cities.

"We really want to have an opportunity for people to travel to those different prides and so we try not to have ours to conflict with any of the major cities around," said Board President of Pride Center West Texas, Emily Parks. "So we did choose the end of the month…the end of August… The second reason is covid, so we are just getting back to semi-normal lives.”

The event will take place in Downtown Odessa on August 7th. at the stage at Noel Heritage Plaza. The event will be free to the public.
