City Restores Water Service to Apartment Complex After Owners Fail to Pay

ABILENE, TX – The residents of Warwick Apartments in Abilene received an unwelcome surprise after the City of Abilene turned off their water recently.

According to the water department, this was a result of building management failing to pay the bill for the last four months. The complex has 152 units and residents spent more than two days without access to running water.

"I am up a creek -- what am I supposed to do," said resident Katie, a nurse at Hendrick who completed a 12-hour shift and found out she had no water.

According to residents, their water bill is included in their monthly rent and it's up to the complex to pay the city.

After the water was shut off, residents could not reach the on-site property manager because she was not available. Local media outfits also reached out for comment, but the office voicemail was full.

The phone number listed for the property owners in Chicago was no longer in service.

According to the City of Abilene, the building manager was warned repeatedly and the decision to cut off service was made after the bill exceeded $20,000.

The city would ultimately turn the water back on as a humanitarian effort, but the owners of the complex will still be required to pay the outstanding bill.
