Storm Winds Derail 86 Train Cars Near Colorado City

 

COLORADO CITY, TX — Severe thunderstorms have hit West Texas all week long, and in Colorado City the winds produced were strong enough to derail 86 trains cars.

According to KTXS, on Tuesday evening wind speeds estimated to be between 80-100 mph caused substantial damage to an area located three miles east of Colorado City.

According to meteorologists from the National Weather Service in Midland a large section of track was destroyed, and five power poles were snapped between mile markers 221 and 222 on I-20.

The wind also toppled a 750-foot long irrigation pivot in a cotton field near Lake Champion.
