Three Concho Valley Wildfires Nearly Extinguished

SAN ANGELO, TX – The wildfires around the Concho Valley have burned over 9,000 acres but are nearly extinguished. 

As previously reported, on June 14 and 15, wildfires have been sweeping across the Concho Valley. The two largest fires were in Coke County and in Sutton County. Here is the original story: Fast Moving Wildfire Burning Near Robert Lee

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, on June 16, the McDaniel Wildfire in Coke County is estimated to be 3,600 acres and 50% contained. The Arroyo Grande Wildfire in Sutton County is 6,006 acres and 90% contained.

Another large fire in Runnels County broke out near Talpa. Over 1,000 acres and a 2.5 ton firetruck owned by the TAMFS was burned during the wildfire. According to the Runnels County Register, the truck was burned after it experienced a flat while battling the fire. Crews attempted to change the flat but was forced to abandon the firetruck. 

There are currently 80 active burn bans out of the 254 counties in Texas. Coke and Sutton county are both currently in a burn ban.

Crews are continuing to battle the fires until they are completely extinguished.
