Highway Renamed After Fallen Police Officer

ABILENE, TX — After House Bill 23 was approved last June, Loop 322 in Abilene will be rededicated to honor Officer Rodney T. Holder of the Abilene Police Department.

According to KTXS, Holder was killed while on duty in 2010 after a vehicle struck his motorcycle. Holder was an Abilene native and a 28-year-veteran of the Abilene Police Department.

House Bill 23 was proposed by State Rep. Stan Lambert to rename Loop 322 in memory of the Holder. The unveiling of the dedication sign will be live-streamed on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.

"Rodney was a great man. He was an amazing father, and he was a loving, dedicated husband," said Rick Tomlin with the Abilene Police Department. "Holder was also one of the finest men to have worn our uniform. His watch ended April 29, 2010, at 11:50am, but his life lives on in each of us.”

During his time with the department Officer Holder served as a patrol officer, SWAT team member, detective, and in the traffic division.

The dedication will feature guests speakers like Lambert, former Abilene Police Traffic Officer, Mike Ricker and Kyler Holder.
