ABILENE, TX – Tammy Roberts, current director of the Abilene Animal Services has officially submitted her resignation after only having the job for 8 months. According to the Abilene City Manager, Robert Hanna, she is leaving to “explore other opportunities.”
According to KTXS, sources at the shelter had been short-staffed for months and that caused internal issues. Local media learned that last week during a staff meeting Roberts told staff that it was her “time to go.”
Additionally, some animal advocates have complained about the conditions at the animal shelter.
City Manager Hanna stated that Roberts’ commute to work, an hour and a half from Abilene, was one of the reasons she decided to pursue a different position. Roberts became the director at the Abilene Animal Services in July of 2019 after leading the same department in Killeen. Roberts was making $95,000 a year in her position with the city. Her last day of work will be the last day of this month.
The previous director, Miranda Walden, resigned in late 2018 after the city began surrounding her leadership.
