Governor Abbott Will Present Medal to Hero in Church Shooting

 

AUSTIN, TX – Jack Wilson will be presented with a Governor’s Medal of Courage for his heroic actions that stopped the gunman in the deadly shooting at West Freeway Church of Christ in December.

According to KTXS, Governor Greg Abbott will be presenting Wilson the medal on Monday, January 13. The medal is the highest award that the governor can present to civilians and is given to those who display "great acts of heroism by risking their own safety to save another's life."

When the gunman opened fire inside the church Wilson, who is the head of the volunteer security team at the West Freeway Church, fired a single round that killed the gunman and preventing more deaths from occurring.

Two victims lost their lives as a result of the shooting.
