DEL RIO, TX – United States Border Patrol agents arrested two sex offenders over the weekend in separate operations.
“Apprehensions like this highlight our border security efforts and the threats our nation faces,” said Matthew Hudak, a Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent. “Our agents are committed to the safety and security of our communities and work tirelessly everyday to prevent dangerous individuals from entering the county.”
On Sept. 23, Border Patrol agents from the Eagle Pass South Station apprehended a Mexican national, Ramiro Castanon-Arredondo, 28, for illegal entry into the United States. Records checks revealed that he was convicted of sexual assault of a minor in Dallas County in 2015 and was removed from the U.S. in December 2016.
In a separate incident on the same day, agents from the Uvalde station arrested Honduran national Carlos Garcia-Serrano, 28, for illegal entry into the United States. Records checks revealed that he was convicted of sex with a minor in Los Angeles in 2011 and was removed from the U.S. in February 2013.
Castanon-Arrendondo and Garcia-Serrano both face prosecution for illegal Reentry After Removal, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
All individuals arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure those with criminal history or gang affiliation are correctly identified.
The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint-Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. To report suspicious activity, call the Del Rio Sector’s toll free number at 1-866-511-8727.
