Midland and Abilene Mobile Vet Centers Reach Out to Veterans in Six West Texas Counties

 

MIDLAND, TX -- (Press Release) The Midland and Abilene Mobile Vet Centers will travel to six West Texas Counties this week.  

According to the Midland Vet Center, Mobile Vet Centers will be in San Angelo on Tuesday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Federal parking lot at 17 E. Twohig, and at the Irion County Courthouse in Mertzon from 3  p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

On Wednesday June 27, Mobile Vet Centers will be in Big Lake at the Reagan County Courthouse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and in Sterling City at the Sterling County Courthouse from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

On Thursday June 28. Mobile Vet Centers will be in Garden City at the Glasscock County Courthouse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and in Big Spring in the Walmart Parking lot, 201 W. Marcy Dr. from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Mobile Vet Center (MVC) is a 34-foot "office on wheels” equipped with satellite communications hosting audio-visual equipment, encrypted phone and fax lines, computers, and wireless internet. MVCs are driven to far-reaching rural areas to assist Veterans with counseling and referral services pertaining to Post-Traumatic Stress, Military Sexual Trauma counseling, bereavement counseling, marriage and family therapy, and resources for suicide intervention as well as VA benefits.

Readjustment Counseling Services are provided for Veterans who served in combat as well as for their dependents. For more information on the capabilities of the Mobile Vet Center, contact Donovan Smith at (325) 232-7925.

Representatives from West Texas VA Health Care System and Waco VA Benefits Office will be on site to answer questions.

The Midland Vet Center is located at 4400 N. Midland Dr., Suite 540, Midland, Texas 79707. To better serve Veterans and their families, the hours of operation are:

Monday, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Thursday, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Friday, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Services include:

  • Individual, group, and family readjustment counseling to veterans, active duty service members, and their families in making a successful transition from combat to civilian life.
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment and help with other related problems that affect functioning within the family, work, school, or other areas of everyday life.
  • Military sexual trauma counseling for veterans and active duty service members of both genders, regardless of combat experience.
