Colonel Owens Relieved of Command at Dyess Air Force Base

ABILENE, TX -- (Press Release) The 18th Air Force commander relieved the 317th Airlift Wing commander May 16 due to loss of trust and confidence in his ability to command.

Col. David Owens was relieved due to the creation of an unhealthy work environment that impacted the commander’s ability to lead effectively. A recent investigation substantiated allegations that he failed to establish and maintain a healthy command climate and created a toxic environment.

“I am committed to ensuring we have the right leaders in place," said Lt. Gen. Giovanni Tuck, 18th Air Force commander. "Our focus is on taking care of our Airmen and civilians as we re-build the command climate in the 317th Airlift Wing.”

Owens was responsible for organizing, training, and equipping 1,200 personnel to operate, maintain, and sustain C-130J aircraft engaged in worldwide combat aerial delivery operations. Owens has been temporarily detailed to the 7th Bomb Wing while he awaits another assignment.

Col. Rhett Boldenow, 317 AW vice commander, will serve as the interim commander effective immediately.

Considering this Col.'s stellar resume, available on KTXS' website, he must have done something awful. Perhaps another "Me Too" offender, or worse. I can't see the USAF pulling his command for just being ineffective and unlikable. Please dig a little deeper Mr. Green so that we may learn the rest of the story.
