ABILENE, TX -- Plans for a third Walmart supercenter in Abilene have been dropped according to KTXS today.
“After much deliberation and consideration of several business factors, we have decided not to pursue development of an additional store in Abilene. Since our original proposal, our customers’ needs have evolved and we are focused on improving our existing stores to meet the changing needs of our customers as well as new innovations to simplify how our customers shop." said Walmart spokesperson Anne Hatfield.
Abilene has a population of 122,225 while San Angelo’s population is 100,702 according to the 2014 census. San Angelo has three Walmart supercenters and two Walmart Neighborhood Markets. Abilene has two Walmart supercenters and one Neighborhood Market.
