Weatherford ISD Teacher Dies After Flu Complications

WEATHERFORD, TX. –  Weatherford ISD officials confirmed Monday that a second-grade teacher at Ikard Elementary School died on Sunday after being hospitalized for flu-like symptoms, according to WFAA

Heather Holland, 38, was the mother of two children, a 10-year-old daughter, and a 7-year-old son.

Her husband, Frank Holland, stated that his wife was feeling ill a week ago and went to the doctor on Wednesday. She had been diagnosed with the flu and given a prescription for Tamiflu.

Her condition worsened and on Friday, Holland decided to check into Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth.

Holland later passed after she went into septic shock, according to her husband.

Counselors are at the school campus today and will be throughout the week to help in any way.

Weatherford ISD stated, “Our campus custodians have been deep cleaning our schools since December and the campus where the teacher worked underwent another deep cleaning on Friday, Feb. 2.”
