First License to Legally Grow Medicinal Marijuana in Texas Issued

AUSTIN, TX -- The Austin American Statesman is reporting that the State has issued the first of three medicinal marijuana licenses.

Cansortium Texas, part of Florida based Cansortium Holdings, received the license Friday.

The licenses are being issued under a law Governor Greg Abbott signed into law in 2015.  The licensees will be strictly regulated by the State including restricted customer bases and how they manufacture their product.

Medicinal marijuana is used to treat certain types of epilepsy.
