Son of Slain Texas Officer Gets Police Escort for First Day of Kindergarten

 

TOMBALL, TX -- A Houston-area boy was escorted by dozens of police officers for his first day of kindergarten in place of his father, a fallen police officer, who was struck a killed by an intoxicated driver in 2011 while investigating a traffic accident. 

Some officer road on horseback Tuesday to escort the 5-year-old Kevin Will Jr. to Wildwood Elementary School in Tomball. The boy's mother had sent a text earlier asking if the officers could help escort her son to school.

Houston police Officer Kevin Will died in May of 2011 after being hit by a vehicle at the scene of an unrelated wreck. His wife was pregnant at the time. 

Records show the driver who struck officer Will plead guilty to intoxication manslaughter and was subsequently sentenced to 55 years in prison.
