SAN ANGELO, TX – Roman Catholic Dioceses of San Angelo Bishop Michael Sis offered condolences to the victims of Sunday’s immigrant smuggling tragedy.
Ten people died and dozens were injured in a tractor trailer parked in a Wal-Mart parking lot in San Antonio.
Sis joins all Bishops across the state and Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller of San Antonio in a show of support.
According to a statement from the Diocese of San Angelo, Bishop Sis offers his, “sincerest condolences to the families of migrants who were tragically killed as human smuggling or trafficking victims from heat exhaustion and suffocation in San Antonio overnight.”
The statement continued Bishop Sis’ message, “In addition to prayers for the repose of the souls, the bishop offers prayers for all those who were injured in the tractor trailer.”
Archbishop Garcia-Siller said, “Everyone – the churches, law enforcement, state and national elected officials, civic organizations, charitable groups – has to prioritize the immigrant issue and truly work together in new ways which have eluded us in the past for common sense solutions.”
