Blanket ISD Receives $835,000 Payment From Wind Turbine Company

BLANKET, TX – After making an agreement to lease a part of the Blanket ISD’s land to Logan’s Gap Wind company to place 13 wind turbines, the district received a payment of $835,000.

The small rural district of approximately 200 students is said to receive a total of $1.8 million from the company over the course of seven years. This is the amount Logan’s Cap would save in tax savings. This is possible because the company receives a tax credit for building on school-owned property.

A local news source reported that the first payment allowed the district to resurface the track and football field, which has needed repairs for nearly eight years. Even though an increased value of the school district could decrease the amount of state funds the schools receive, Superintendent David Wishenhunt is confident that the funds received from the wind turbines will offset any state fund cuts.

“Schools do struggle for money,” Wishenhunt said. “When you get a big influx of money like what we just got, to me, that opens a lot of doors.”
