Lubbock Dentist Leaves DC Waitress Generous Tip & Hopeful Message

LUBBOCK, TX –  A local Lubbock dentist, Jason White, made the news last week after his act of kindness towards a D.C waitress. He was praised by the restaurant on social media because he left a $450 tip during White and his friends' trip to President Trump’s inauguration on Jan 20.

White told a local news source that he had felt honored and overwhelmed at the atmosphere of patriotism that circled DC the day of the inauguration.

"The patriotism, the love, the respect, it's really about the American spirit that day, and you feel it.”

He also talked about the contrast in the two different events that took place in the capital that weekend. Both events were peaceful but celebrated two very different and contrasting ideals, which spoke to the power of democracy according to White.

White and his friend were set to leave D.C the Monday after the inauguration and decided to stop at Busboys and Poets after their cab driver recommended the famous restaurant.

As they entered the restaurant, White explained he could tell the décor indicated that it supported a more “left-leaning” ideology. One of his friends had a cap with Trump’s signature phrase “Make America Great Again.”

He said the group could feel other patrons looking at them as they surveyed the crowd, and then an African American waitress approached them. He remembers their interaction as friendly, even in the current political climate.

White recalled that the waitress regarded them with a smile from the first moment, even if she was slightly uncomfortable, possibly “after seeing the [Trump] hat.”

As the group wrapped up their meal, White decided to leave her the generous tip.

"I wanted her to know that I'm not the person she perceived me to be, and I was hoping I could show her that I didn't want to perceive her in the way she might think I'm perceiving her," he explained.

He also left her a heartfelt note: "We may come from different cultures and may disagree on certain issues, but if everyone would share their smile and kindness like your beautiful smile, our country will come together as one people. Not race. Not gender. Just American. God Bless!"

White said he is proud of supporting Trump and hopes the new president is “successful in bringing us together.” The $450 was in honor of the 45th president.

He told the local news source that he had forgotten about the tip until he was home and saw the post on twitter. White has been approached from media sources all around the country to get a statement regarding his actions.

He ended with a heartfelt quote and explained his desire to meet the waitress once again.

"None of us are more special than the other; we don't have the power to change policy; we don't have the power to write laws; we only have the power to treat one another with love and respect, and people are looking for that story. And that's exactly what happened," he said wiping tears from his eyes. "It's just crazy that it's taken off like this."
