K9 Thor Retires From Abilene Police Department

 

ABILENE, TX – Thor, one of Abilene Police Department’s outstanding K9s, is retiring today after years of service. Thor has been a part of APD since 2012 and will greatly be missed, for he was a great contribution to the department APD, officials said.

Thor was purchased for APD with the collaboration of HEB and the department. He has been nationally certified four times by the United States Police Canine Association, four times by the National Police Canine Association and four times with National Narcotics Detector Dog Association.

During his time with APD, Thor seized $5,276, 22 firearms, 1,389 grams of marijuana, 1,978 grams of methamphetamine, 58 grams of cocaine, 740 assorted pills, and 254 pieces of paraphernalia. The total street value of these narcotics is $1,040,000.

Officer Josh New, who is Thor’s handler, will oversee Thor’s care after retirement. Officer New is the only person Thor bit during his time with the department.

Thor also received Rookie Dog and 2nd Place Patrol Dog in 2013 and 2nd Place Patrol Dog in 2016.
