ALPINE, TX- Yesterday in Alpine, a grand jury met for the second time to discuss matters of missing Sul Ross State University student Zuzu Verk.
The sole suspect in the disappearance of Zuzu is her on and off again boyfriend, Robert Fabian.
In hopes of receiving some answers from Fabian, the Verk family gathered at the courthouse, but got nothing.
NewsWest 9 reported, “He kept to himself, didn’t say a word to the cameras and avoided eye contact with a family he once sat down with to eat dinner.”
This is the first time the family has seen Fabian since Zuzu had gone missing. Lori Verk, Zuzu’s mother said, “As much as I wanted him to look at me and make eye contact, he wouldn’t. He avoided us.”
Chris Estrada, Fabian’s friend is also a person of interest in this case. Estrada also faced a grand jury, and explained that he had only met Zuzu once, but he did explain that Zuzu and Fabian's relationship was on the rocks.
NewsWest 9 put in their report that Estrada said, "[About] September [or] October, when I started hanging out in Alpine more, me and other friends were more on board of them splitting up. You know, at some point you gotta call it quits, but she would go back; he would go back. It was just back and forth."
Estrada said he believes Fabian is innocent, but Zuzu’s parents aren’t so convinced, NewsWest 9 reported.
When Zuzu went away to college, her parents did expect to be away from her, but not like this.
"At this point, I don't care why or what or how, I just want to know where she is,” said Lori Verk. “I have to hang on to that thread of hope that she is still alive out there and someone has to know where she is."
Brewster County officials told NewsWest 9 that the grand jury is done meeting for the month of December. They said there is a possibility the jury could reconvene again next month. New paperwork has not be filed in the case since yesterday.
