SWEETWATER, TX - Early yesterday morning, at 8:06 a.m., a two-vehicle crash occurred on IH 20 in Sweetwater. Weather conditions were not fair yesterday, as it was raining and there was standing water on the road.
Trooper Dustin Neitch, with the Department of Public Safety in Sweetwater, investigated a two-vehicle crash involving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup and a 2014 Buick Enclave.
The driver of the Silverado is Guy Wilks, 31, of Palestine. He was accompanied by one passenger, Kelly Nicole Wilks, 38, of Palestine.
Guy suffered critical/incapacitating injuries and was transported to UMC Lubbock, whereas, Kelly’s injuries are unknown. No medical information was noted on the report for her. During the time of the accident, Guy was not wearing his seatbelt.
According to DPS, two people were traveling in the Buick: Angela Harrison, 50, of Big Spring and Kenneth Harrison, 48, of Big Spring. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Neither Angela or Kenneth were wearing their seatbelts during the time of the crash. Their bodies were both taken to Cate Spencer and Trent Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
DPS explained, “[The Chevrolet] was traveling westbound on IH20 while [the Buick] was traveling eastbound. [The Chevrolet] began to hydroplane, left the south side of the roadway, and crossed the center median. [The Chevrolet] entered the eastbound lanes of travel striking [the Buick] head on.”
During this time, the crash is still under investigation.
