ABILENE, TX – The Abilene Police Department, in conjunction with the Abilene Fire Department, first responders and other City Divisions will hold a large-scale training for first-responder personnel. The training will be held at Shotwell Stadium, located on E. South 11th Street, and will include multi-pieces of equipment and personnel.
An Abilene Police press release reminds citizens living in the area that there will be a large police presence in the area, and they may hear loud bangs and sounds of gunfire. This will all be part of the training.
Several smaller exercises will take place on each Wednesday in November, beginning today.
Each session will last throughout the day and eventually lead up to the large-scale exercise on Wednesday, November 16, 2016.
Participants in the exercise will use simulation weapons, which will simulate live gunfire. This training will help Law Enforcement Agencies and participants integrate services and response in case of an active-threat situation.
The public is encouraged to stay clear of the area while the training is being conducted on each of the training days. Traffic will be closed to through traffic on Expo Drive during the hours of the operation.
