Two Abilene Police Officers Rescue Woman from Burning Apartment

ABILENE, TX – A press release from the Abilene Police Department announced that on Oct. 6, two Abilene Police officers saved the life of a woman whose apartment caught fire from an improperly disposed cigarette. Officers Jerod Daniel and Cory Davis are both credited with saving the life of 48-year-old Marjorie Pardue of Abilene.

The press release stated, “While on routine patrol in South Abilene in the early morning hours of October 6, 2016, Officer Jerod Daniel noticed the odor of a fire. While investigating, he discovered a duplex on fire on the 1500 block of S. 2nd. He called for backup and immediately got out to check the duplex for any occupants. Second to arrive on the scene was Officer Cory Davis. Davis kicked in the door to the duplex, got a water hose from a neighboring home and started spraying the apartment with water. Once the smoke subsided, Daniel noticed an unconscious woman lying on the floor of the apartment. He went in to extricate the woman but got tangled in debris and ground clutter. Davis went in and helped guide both Officer Daniel and the woman out of the burning home.”

Once rescued and taken out of the smoldering apartment, Pardue was flown to Lubbock’s Burn Unit due to the severity of her injuries, but she is expected to recover.

The press release added, “The actions of Officers Daniel and Davis saved the life of Ms. Pardue. They should both be recognized and honored for their actions that night and exemplify what it means to be a First Responder and an Abilene Police Officer.”

Rookie Officer Jarod Daniel is a graduate of Class 53. He began his career with the Abilene Police Department on October 5, 2015, nearly a year to the date of this call.

Officer Cory Davis is a graduate of Class 49. He began his career with the Abilene Police Department on June 23, 2009.
