DEL RIO, TX - A press release from the Del Rio Sector Border Patrol announced that agents seized more than 1,300 pounds of narcotics, valued over $1,096,368 in six different incidents.
Incident One
On Aug. 26, at approximately 11 p.m., agents from the Eagle Pass South Station, conducting linewatch operations, responded to suspicious activity near Eagle Pass. After searching the area on foot, agents discovered several abandoned bundles containing over 209 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $167,440. The narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Incident Two
On Aug. 27, at approximately 5 a.m., an agent from the Eagle Pass Station, conducting linewatch operations on a local ranch, encountered a foot-sign that led away from the Rio Grande River. The agent followed the foot-sign, which resulted in the discovery of an abandoned military-style duffel bag containing 18 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $14,800. The narcotics were turned over to the DEA.
Incident Three
On Aug. 27, at approximately 12:00 p.m., agents from the Uvalde Station arrived on the scene of a bail out at the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office that occurred the previous night on F.M. 481. Uvalde County Sheriff’s deputies were able to seize several military-style duffel bags containing marijuana but were unable to locate any suspects. Border Patrol agents returned the next day and encountered a foot-sign of an individual, leading away from where the vehicle had stopped. Agents followed the foot-sign for some time and encountered three large duffel bags concealed in the brush containing over 214 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $171,808. The narcotics were turned over to the DEA.
Incident Four
On Aug. 29, at approximately 3:00 a.m., agents from the Eagle Pass Station, conducting linewatch operations near Highway 57, spotted several individuals jumping a fence nearby. The agents responded to the area and followed the foot-sign down a trail where they discovered five abandoned bundles containing 343 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $274,480. The marijuana was turned over to the DEA.
Incident Five
On Sept. 1, at approximately 4:00 p.m., agents from the Eagle Pass Border Patrol Station, conducting linewatch operations near Normandy, observed four individuals running toward the Rio Grande River, one of whom had a small bundle.
The agents made their way closer and walked to the area where the individuals were observed, and they discovered three abandoned bundles wrapped in black trash bags, containing 192 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $154,320. The marijuana was turned over to the DEA.
Incident Six
On Sept. 21, at approximately 11:00 p.m., agents from the Eagle Pass Station, conducting linewatch operations near Highway 57, spotted several individuals making their way through a local ranch.
Agents made their way closer to the area and began tracking the subjects through the brush, where they encountered six large military-style duffel bags containing 387 pounds of marijuana, valued at an estimated $309,920. The marijuana was turned over to the DEA.
For Fiscal Year 2016, which began on Oct. 1, 2015, the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector has seized $8.6 million worth of narcotics.
“The agents of Del Rio Sector work tirelessly to eliminate the flow of illicit narcotics in our country,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew Hudak. “I am proud to work alongside the men and women of the United States Border Patrol.”
