ABILENE, Texas - A press release from the Abilene Zoological Society (AZS) announced it will wrap up a year of wild celebration with a party: Golden Zoobilation: Brews & Barbeques.
Set for the evening of Saturday, Sept. 24, Golden Zoobilation will mark the Abilene Zoo’s 50th anniversary with dining and dancing among the beasts, as well as a tribute to longtime AZS member Donald McDonald, who has served on the board since 1965.
With that in mind, Zoobilation Chairman Thora Sutton and her committee are creating a memorable evening for a herd of safari chic-clad guests.
“We’ve booked the talented musicians of Freeride for entertainment, and we’re cooking up a menu that will be an international culinary experience,” Sutton said. “Our silent auction feature items you can only get from the zoo – art created by animals and even a giraffe sculpture comprised of pieces from the old Highneck Bridge.”
The group hopes to titillate taste buds with a bill of fare featuring barbecue recipes from the Caribbean, Africa, and of course, Texas. They’ll pair these bites with complementary beverages. Guests must be 21 and older to attend, and tickets are now available in the Zoo Store and online. To view the tickets, click here.
