The Abilene Zoo announced today that it will celebrate World Giraffe Day on Saturday, June 25, with giraffe-themed activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Interactions with giraffe keepers are scheduled at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and the animals will also join in on the fun.
The zoo will also raffle a VIP Tour of a Giraffe Safari for a party of five. Guests get one chance at the memorable prize for each $1 donated to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, which works to save the animals in Africa. All activities are free with regular zoo admission.
Situated on 16 acres in the Grover Nelson Park, the zoo has more than 1,000 animals of 270 species. The zoo is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Last admittance is 4 p.m. The zoo is open until 9 p.m. each Thursday all summer, with last admittance at 8 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $4.50 for children ages 3-12, and $6 for seniors aged 60 and older.
