The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) welcomes 123 newly graduated recruits in a ceremony held in Austin.
The recruits were part of the program that began in January of this year. They completed a 23 week course that covered over 100 subjects and topics including counterterrorism, traffic and criminal law, arrest and control procedures, accident reconstruction, first aid and Spanish.
Other skills such as use of force, cultural diversity, communication skills, and firearms are also covered during training.
The events keynote speaker, Texas Public Safety Commission Chair Cynthia Leon, thanked the graduates for their dedication and accomplishments and welcomed them into the DPS family.
“Thank you for your courageous commitment to serving the people of Texas, and DPS is pleased to have you carry on the legacy of this premier law enforcement organization built on integrity, excellence, accountability and teamwork,” she said.
The new troopers will soon report to their assigned duty stations across the state where they will complete months of on-the-job training.
The DPS is currently accepting applications for those interested in becoming state troopers. Applications will be received until July 13,2016 and classes commence on Jan. 8, 2017.
