Pecan Bayou to Crest just Above Flooding Stage in Brownwood Today

 

The Pecan Bayou is currently at 15.25 feet within the City of Brownwood, stated Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford this morning.  The National Weather Service now predicts the bayou to crest at 15.4 feet this afternoon, and remain at this approximate level until Sunday night.  The NWS considers 15 feet the flood stage for Pecan Bayou. Major flood stage is 22 feet. 

Pecan Bayou flows through the east side of Brownwood and underneath a bridge on E. Commerce St./US 377, the major east-west artery in the city. See map:

Lake Brownwood is currently at 1429.67’, and falling.  No significant rain is expected for the weekend. 

TxDOT does not anticipate that Hwy. 377/67 will close.

Crawford stated there are several closures as a result of the high water:

The Brown County Fair Association has announced that the Rodeo Parade has been canceled this morning.  The Heartland Rod Run today has been moved to the Heartland Mall.

  • CC Woodson from Williams Ranch Rd. to Milton Ave.
  • S. Broadway from CC Woodson to Pecan.
  • Trapp from Fisk to Riverside
  • Riverside from Trapp to Hughley
  • Riverside from Commerce to Market St.
  • Market St. from Riverside to Market Place Blvd.
  • Market Place Blvd. from Main Blvd. to Clements
  • Cordell low water crossing at Adams Branch
  • Lee from Cordell to Victoria
  • Vine St. Underpass.
  • Brady from Ave A to 1st
  • Rogan from Brady to Ave B
  • Cross from Brady to 2nd
  • 1st from Ave D to Coggin
  • Ave E from 1st to 2nd
  • McCulley from Romines to Main
  • Fisk from N. Broadway to Main

The same road closures remain in the County as listed before.

The following Brownwood businesses are closed:

  • Tractor Supply
  • Big Lots
  • Dollar General (315 E. Commerce)
  • State Farm (400 CC Woodson)
