TABC Streamlines Permit/License Application Process

Business owners looking to apply for a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission liquor license or permit may now take advantage of a new program designed to make the application process easier.

TABC's Licensing Division has rolled out its new online Responsibilities Course, a comprehensive training course which may be utilized to takes the place of the face-to-face meetings with TABC Auditors which were previously required as part of the application process. During the application process, applicants will receive an e-mail from their assigned TABC License and Permit Specialist. The e-mail will contain a link to the online course. Applicants can also review the course information at any time on the TABC website, www.tabc.texas.gov.

The classes include important information about a licensee/permittee's responsibility to uphold the Alcoholic Beverage Code at their establishment, and features tips on how avoid unintended violations such as sales of alcohol to a minor or an intoxicated person.

The online courses are intended to help streamline the application process for all users, according to Jo Ann Joseph, TABC's Assistant Director of Licensing.

"With the new online Responsibilities Course, applicants can schedule the class at their convenience, meaning they'll no longer have to take time out of their busy schedules for a face-to-face meeting," said Joseph. "With that said, if the applicant has additional questions, they're still welcome to meet with a TABC auditor face-to-face at a scheduled time."

At present, the online Responsibilities Course is available to applicants seeking a Mixed Beverage Permit (MB), A Mixed Beverage Permit with Food and Beverage Certificate (MB/FB), a Wine and Beer Retailer's Off-Premise Permit (BQ), a Wine and Beer Retailer's Permit (BG), or a Wine and Beer Retailer's Permit with Food and Beverage Certificate (BG/FB). The course will be made available for additional license/permit types in the coming months.
