KBYG radio in Big Spring reported that Jason Ogle of Big Spring died Monday afternoon in a Lubbock hospital from injuries sustained in a gas plant explosion northeast of Big Spring.

According to earlier reports on KBYG’s Facebook page, Ogle was caught inside a vehicle on the grounds of the WTG plant when the explosion happened. KBYG quoted Howard County VFD Chief Tommy Sullivan who said, “When the flare at the plant somehow was emitting gas but did not properly ignite, and vapors collected near a plant vehicle that contained a worker. The vapors ignited, engulfing the vehicle in flames and injuring the occupant.”

The explosion happened Sunday night and also ignited a small grass fire that was quickly contained by the Big Spring VFD, KBYG reported.

The WTG plant is located 12 miles northeast of Big Spring.
