DEL RIO – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Uvalde Border Patrol Station apprehended a convicted sex offender who was previously deported.
“Keeping our communities safe is a great priority of the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol.” said Chief Patrol Agent, Del Rio Sector Rodolfo Karisch. “Keeping these types of criminals from reaching our neighborhoods makes us all a little bit safer.”
On Oct. 10, Agents working linewatch duties in Uvalde, apprehended Francisco Antonio Navarro-Garcia, 46, an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador. During processing, agents discovered that Navarro-Garcia is a registered sex offender, convicted for indecency with a child in Pasadena on Sept. 19, 2011. Navarro-Garcia has an active warrant for probation violation out of Harris County in Houston. Navarro-Garcia was previously deported to El Salvador on March 22, 2013. Navarro-Garcia is pending extradition to Houston, following the disposition of his federal charges.
Navarro-Garcia faces a charge of illegal re-entry after deportation– 8 USC § 1326 – and his prior order of removal will be reinstated.
The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. During FY 2016, which started Oct. 1, 2015, Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended two previously deported sex offenders.
