The threat of flooding in the City of Brownwood is over, said Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford in a press release at 11:30 a.m. this morning.
“Water levels in the Pecan Bayou and Adam’s Brach have been receding, and are not expected to rise any further,” she stated.
Several roads previously closed are re-opening, she said. The Highway 377 South (Main St.) inside two lanes are open and Highway 67/84 (Commerce St.) is open all four lanes as of 11:30 a.m.
According to TxDOT:
According to National Weather Service forecasts, water levels in Brownwood’s Pecan Bayou are expected to remain steady before beginning to fall over the next several hours. The threat for flooding over the US 67/84 (Commerce Street) bridge is diminishing so crews have removed barricades to allow traffic to pass.
Previously, this roadway had been closed between US 183 and Hwy 279 because of high water over the bridge at the Pecan Bayou.
FM 2525 (Williams Ranch Road) continues to see high water over much of the road and will remain closed. River Oaks Road will also remain closed at the intersection with FM 2525.
Several private parking lots are still flooded, however.
Crawford requests that no one drive around barricades. Citizens should enter flooded parking lots at their own risk.
Streets that remain closed are:
- Belle Plain at Romines
- McCulley at Main
- Romines at Commerce
- Market Place Blvd.
- Cordell at W. Baker
- C.C. Woodson at Milton
- C.C. Woodson at Opal
- Riverside Drive at Commerce and Fay
- Riverside Park
- Fisk at N. Broadway
- Fisk at Trapp
- Rush
- Vine St. Underpass
- Williams Ranch Rd (FM 2525) from CC Woodson to the Access Road
