High winds, hail and thunderstorms are anticipated to hit parts of Runnels, Coke and northern Tom Green counties this morning, with a significant weather advisory in effect in those areas until 11 a.m. and a severe thunderstorm watch in effect in Tom Green County until 1 p.m.
The radar for the National Weather Service indicates that San Angelo may miss the storms, however surrounding areas are under watch and warning for severe weather, some until 10 p.m.
At the local NWS station, the weatherman relayed that meteorologists are busy with a smattering of different alerts.
“We’re all in severe weather mode this afternoon,” he said. “We have severe thunderstorm warnings for northern Tom Green and Coke counties, as well as eastern Nolan and Fisher, western Taylor and Jones counties. We also have a tornado warning in effect for northeast Fisher and northwest Jones and also a severe thunderstorm for southeast Mason and southeast Kimble.”
The majority of inclement weather is anticipated to hit counties to the northwest, north and southeast of San Angelo, with highs in Tom Green County forecast to reach 85 this afternoon, with intermittent sunshine and clouds throughout the day.
Weather Underground is forecasting a 40 percent chance of rain this afternoon, with current winds out of the northwest.
Update 11:40 a.m.
There is a report of straight line wind damage in Loraine (Mitchell County) damage was seen to the school district buildings and one home was destroyed.
