Angelo State's Coach Girsch on the Rams' Shutout Victory Over Sul Ross State
SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State Rams claimed a dominant homecoming victory over Sul Ross State on Saturday, 64-0.
Behind three defensive touchdowns, the Rams put up their most complete performance in 2026 to claim a much-needed win and get Angelo State's season back on track.
"Yeah, we played well," head coach Jeff Girsch said at his weekly press conference at the Junell Center on Monday. "I say this every week. You go back and watch the film, and it's never as good or as bad as you think it is, but there were some great things on that film. There were some things that we have to get cleaned up, but I'm very excited about how our guys played."
The Rams improved to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in Lone Star Conference play, scoring in all four quarters while holding the Lobos to 184 yards of total offense, including negative 33 rushing yards. Angelo State finished with 416 yards of total offense and forced five turnovers.
Angelo State's Maddox Maher made his first career start, finishing 8-13 on passing for 184 yards and two touchdowns. The young man did not have much to do before the Rams built a large enough lead for Maher to take a seat and let the other quarterbacks play.
Seven different Rams carried the football, with Cameron Dischler leading the way with five carries for 67 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, 10 Rams recorded at least one tackle for loss, while the defense finished with a season-high five sacks and three interceptions.
Hunter Boudreaux returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown, while Brody McGee and Athen Dominguez each scored on fumble recoveries.
Next up, the Rams travel to Wichita Falls to face off with Midwestern State at 8 p.m. Saturday.
