PREVIEW: Lake View Faces Another Tough Road Matchup in Levelland

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Lake View Chiefs look to bounce back from a heartbreaking overtime loss to Big Spring on the road last week when the Chiefs travel to Levelland to play the Lobos on Friday night.

Lake View (3-2) at Levelland (3-2)

  • When: Friday, Oct. 2
  • Where: Hockley County Credit Union Stadium, Levelland
  • Kickoff: 7 p.m.

The Chiefs come off a tough 27-20 loss to the Big Spring Steers last Friday. In a matchup that scored more than 100 points a season ago, both teams were deadlocked until the end of the second quarter. Lake View took the lead in the fourth thanks to a takeaway returned for a touchdown, but Big Spring managed to tie the game with just over a minute to go in regulation.

In the first overtime period, Big Spring scored on its first play from scrimmage, and that ended up being the difference in the game. Lake View tried to answer, but a fumble just before the goal line sealed the win for the Steers.

Head coach Hector Guevara talked about the loss in his weekly press conference at Lake View High School on Monday afternoon before previewing the matchup with Levelland. Watch that press conference above.

This week, Lake View looks to get back on track when they face off with the Lobos. Both teams have comparable records and a common opponent in Fort Stockton. The Chiefs beat Fort Stockton back in Week 1, 41-19, on the road to secure the Chiefs' first win of the season. Levelland also beat the Panthers, 37-6.

Last season, Lake View stormed back from a 20-point deficit to almost complete the comeback in the Chiefs' eventual 40-33 loss to the Lobos. Levelland brings back much of the same offense that they ran last year, so if the Chiefs want a chance at victory, Lake View will need its revamped defense to step up and limit what the Lobos want to do.

On offense, the Chiefs still need to find a way to run the ball effectively. When Lake View gets inside the red zone, a solid run game will make their lives infinitely easier than having to rely on quarterback Chris Alvizo every snap.
