Lake View Opens Home Slate Against Snyder

SAN ANGELO, TX — After opening the 2026 season with a 41-19 road victory over Fort Stockton, the Lake View Chiefs return home this week looking to build on their strong start when they host Snyder on Friday.

The Chiefs dominated both sides of the ball against Fort Stockton despite some early-season mistakes holding Lake View back in the first half. Head coach Hector Guevara said he was encouraged by his team's overall performance in the season opener despite acknowledging there is still room for improvement.

"For being the first game, I was pleased how they played," Guevara said. "We played sloppy at times, but that's understandable. We've got to clean up some blocking schemes and definitely some kickoff issues where we gave up too many yards and field position. Other than that, I was pleased with their effort. They got after it and never let down."

One area where the Chiefs did not struggle was causing chaos on defense. Lake View's defense forced six turnovers and held a talented Panthers' offense to just 19 points in the matchup, including a blocked punt that led to a safety and an interception returned for a touchdown in the 4th quarter.

"We were able to force some fumbles and get some interceptions, so we'll take them when we get them," Guevara said. "I think the kids were just in the right place at the right time, being coachable, and sometimes it works out great for them."

Offensively, Lake View put up 33 points despite some early mishaps in the game. Quarterback Chris Alvizo showed off his skill set with three touchdown passes, two to Chris Rodela and one to Andrew Young. Alvizo finished his day with 231 yards on 19-38 passing, three touchdowns, and notably, zero interceptions. He also added 24 yards on the ground. Overall, the Chiefs' ground game came alive more and more as the game progressed, as Noah Cook (18 yards and one TD) and Aiden Rivera (57 yards and one TD) both found the end zone.

The Chiefs now move on to Lake View's home opener at San Angelo Stadium on Friday to host the Snyder Tigers. Lake View and Snyder know each other well, having played each other numerous times over the years, including Lake View's 49-28 win in Snyder last season.

The Tigers dropped their home opener last week to the Canyon Eagles 59-13. Despite that loss, the Chiefs should still be prepared for a team that returns six starters on each side of the ball. Snyder uses two quarterbacks in its system, so Lake View faces a unique set of challenges.

"They're going to come after you," Guevara said. "It's always been a tough game when we play them. They've got some good-sized kids up front, good speed overall, and they have two different quarterbacks, so we've got to prepare for both different styles."

If the Chiefs want to move to 2-0, Alvizo and the offense must take care of the football. The points will come, and Lake View's defense is more than capable of limiting the Tigers' offense. If Lake View limits explosive plays, they'll have a great chance to begin the season with another win.
