No. 13 ASU Softball Closes Out Regular Season on the Road
SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University softball team closes the regular season this weekend with four pivotal games that will impact Lone Star Conference and postseason positioning.
The Rambelles face West Texas A&M University in a nationally ranked matchup Saturday at 1 p.m. before traveling to face Eastern New Mexico University on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Angelo State enters the weekend on a 12-game winning streak after sweeping Lubbock Christian University and Midwestern State University to close out its home schedule. The Rambelles posted wins of 9-3 and 5-4 over LCU and 7-3 and 4-0 over Midwestern State, finishing the regular season with a 22-3 mark at Mayer Softball Field.
The Rambelles are currently ranked third in the NCAA South Central Region behind Colorado Christian University and West Texas A&M. Oklahoma Christian University and University of Texas at Tyler round out the top five, followed by Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Colorado State University Pueblo, St. Mary’s, Lubbock Christian and Texas Woman's University.
Scouting Report: No. 6 West Texas A&M
West Texas A&M enters the weekend one game ahead of Angelo State in the conference standings with a 42-6 overall record and a 32-4 mark in league play. The Lady Buffs boast one of the top offenses in Division II, hitting .389 as a team and averaging 9.4 runs per game. Jordyn De Los Santos leads the lineup with a .509 batting average, 21 home runs and 79 RBIs. In the circle, Brooke Janning is 20-2 with a 2.21 ERA, while Laci Peskey holds an 18-4 record.
Scouting Report: Eastern New Mexico
Eastern New Mexico enters at 17-26 overall and 13-23 in conference play. Christina Meneses leads the Greyhounds offensively with a .436 batting average, nine home runs and 42 RBIs. Marissa Rodriguez anchors the pitching staff with a 4.18 ERA and a 9-3 record.
Angelo State holds a 38-44 all-time record against West Texas A&M and a 69-11 advantage over Eastern New Mexico, including a seven-game winning streak in the series against the Greyhounds.
